50th Anniversary
Bellflower Readies for Year-Long Celebration to Mark 50th Anniversary

It's been 50 years in the making, but Bellflower's golden birthday is here. The City will launch its 50th Anniversary celebration in January with a multitude of fun and exciting events planned all the way through October, when the festivities conclude with the annual Liberty Day Parade. The 50th anniversary, commemorating Bellflower's incorporation on September, 3, 1957, will be themed around the idea of "Fabulous 50" and will capture the spirit of the community.
The celebration is set to kick off January 18th when the City unveils the design for its official mascot. The mascot design will be the result of a contest in which students have been asked to submit ideas for a cool cow. The mascot will celebrate the city's roots as a dairy community.
Other planned activities include: a "Back to the 50s Day" in September where citizens will be encouraged to where 50s-style clothes; a Golden Moments Dinner in October at Simms Park that will honor longtime residents and businesses; a concert in October at Thompson Park featuring the Fab Four - a Beatles tribute band; another concert following the Liberty Day Parade that will showcase 1950s bands such as the Coasters, Platters and Shondells; a time capsule ceremony; the distribution of a commemorative pin; the creation of a “Fabulous Fifty” calendar; the publication of a book tracking Bellflower's history and a mobile "history wagon" that will provide a multimedia look at the City's past. The City is also asking local businesses to participate in special "50s items" sales days, where customers can buy products at 1957 prices.
