The Bellflower Concert Association began in 1947, as the Excelsior Community Concert Association.  Its purpose was to bring a minimum of three programs of merit, per year, to the local area and most of the artist came from New York City.  Three cities, Artesia, Bellflower and Norwalk made up the base area and 400 memberships were purchased the first year.

The 1953-54 season saw Leontyne Price as one of the artists performing.  She later became a leading soporano at the Metropolitan Opera.  Other well known artists include Dorothy Warenskjold, Marvalee Carriga and Leonard Pennario.

Upon completion of the 50th concert, the Board decided to secure artist from the southern California area, which has enabled the association to produce six concerts annually instead of three.
