The Building & Safety Division of the Planning Department is responsible for the enforcement of City standards governing the construction, alteration, and maintenance of buildings and structures.
This includes building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, energy, accessibility, and engineering plan check services, administration of abatement programs for substandard and unsafe structures, and providing State and local code administrative interpretations.
Provides quality regulations for structures through pre-plan examination with building designer, formal plan examination, and personal field inspection to ensure safety.
Ensures adherence to uniform safety and energy standards in the construction, addition, or repair of buildings through plans examination and field inspections.
Provides accurate and prompt information to contractors, architects, engineers, and property owners regarding building, energy, and safety requirements.
Coordinates building plan check procedures of all City departments, enforces building codes, and requires permits when suspect activities are observed in the field.

Monday – Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Alternating Fridays 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
