Polytechnique Environmental, Inc. (Polytechnique) is seeking to hire an entry-level field employee to support field projects. Activities include but are not limited to planning, coordinating, and implementing field projects to meet project objectives. Polytechnique will provide training to develop the needed skills for this job. The selected candidate should be organized and resourceful, communicate well, understand complex tasks, and have the skills needed to read and follow a detailed work plan.

Desired Qualifications

Education: 

High school diploma or equivalent

Software:    

Possess basic skills with or the ability to learn Office 365 and Adobe Acrobat DC Standard  

Experience:

Selected candidate should have a valid driver’s license, experience driving field vehicles (standard pickup truck), and a good driving record. Being insurable with our automobile insurance company is a requirement of employment. Selected candidate should have basic experience operating garden, household, and automotive mechanical and electrical equipment and troubleshooting when equipment malfunctions

Knowledge:

Familiarity with basic operator manuals for equipment, able to professionally consult with customer service when troubleshooting, and able to draw a basic site sketch

Requirements Following Employment:

Must obtain and maintain the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification. Must be medically cleared for field work and respirator.

Responsibilities:

Field employees work at project sites, coordinate and oversee work tasks, and implement work plans. This position includes assisting and learning from senior field personnel. More specifically:

  • Plan, coordinate, and perform field tasks
  • Prepare job hazard analyses and conduct safety briefings
  • Work with the Health and Safety manager to develop and review protocols
  • Select, procure, and use appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Coordinate with site owners and occupants, and report project status
  • Conduct site inspections, document field activities, and site conditions
  • Collect, label, and transport environmental samples
  • Coordinate with analytical laboratories for supplies and services
  • Review and compile environmental data
  • Prepare basic maps and sketches
  • Install, repair, operate, maintain equipment, and troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment
  • Follow permit conditions and suggest and implement solutions
  • Use remote monitoring tools and software
  • Check and update field systems, communication, and databases
  • Oversee drilling crews or other site workers
  • Manage investigation-derived waste including containing, labeling, and sampling
  • Inventory and profile waste for off-site disposal or recycling
  • Conduct internet research
  • Elevate potential risks and work with the health and safety manager to implement mitigation
  • Operate field vehicles in a safe and legal manner
  • Adhere to company’s given rules and regulations
  • Work professionally with colleagues and other team members
  • Build relationships and establish trust with project teams and managers
  • Represent Polytechnique to clients, agencies, site operators, and teaming partners
