Dorothy was born on March 23, 1937, and passed away on February 20, 2017, at the age of 79. She served on the Bellflower City Council from 2001-2009 and was Mayor of Bellflower in 2004-2005. During her 2007 term as Council Member, she participated in many 50th Anniversary special events and included Bellflower memorabilia in the time capsule buried at City Hall’s steps. King also served on Bellflower’s Project Area Committee (PAC); served as board member for the Bellflower Chamber of Commerce and the Workforce Investment Board; and was active in many various local organizations, including Sister Cities and the Bellflower Rotary Club.
Prior to joining the City, she was a Bellflower business owner, a loving wife and mother and an active member of the community. She is survived by her son, Bill Mendez; daughter, Kathy Ferrin; granddaughter, Karrah Ferrin; and great granddaughter, Mackenzie Ferrin. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, March 3, 2017, at 1:00 p.m., at All Souls Mortuary in Long Beach.
