As Summer Approaches, Holland International Market Pushes to Reach New Customers

Holland International Market is expanding their marketing map and introducing Dutch products to Bellflower’s surrounding communities this summer season.  Maria Cervantes, the always cheerful owner of the little Dutch store, will be taking her goods out for a number of events in the next couple of months, one of which she will be hosting herself right here in Bellflower.  “I am always trying to bring in new customers,” said Cervantes as she bustled around the store’s aisles checking on inventory.

When Holland American closed its doors on Artesia Boulevard after 71 years of service, patrons were distraught to lose their source for Dutch treats and specialties such as Speculaas cookies and Venco black licorice.  Shortly after, in November 2014, Cervantes re-opened the  well-known market in the heart of Bellflower’s Downtown under the new name Holland International Market.

This month, Cervantes is participating in several fun festivals in the City of Long Beach.  First on her list is Konings Dag (Dutch King’s Day) taking place on April 30th at the   ShoreLine Aquatic Park in Long Beach. On May 28th, she will operate a booth at the 28th Annual Holland Festival at Gemmrig Park in Long Beach.  This unique festival celebrates the shared cultural heritage of Holland and Indonesia, the former Dutch East Indies.  From there, Cervantes will partake in Paramount’s 60th Anniversary Heritage Festival on June 10th at Paramount Park.

Cervantes will host her own annual event, the Hollandse Verse Haring, on June 17th in the Town Center Plaza  located directly behind her store.

Hollandse Verse Haring highlights Dutch culture, food and music, with entertainment featuring Fredy Schreuders.  Patrons are welcomed to come by and try Dutch specialties, including new imports by HAK products and old favorites like appeltaart and stroopwafels.

Holland International Market is located at 9835 Belmont Street.  For more information about events, visit www.facebook.com/HollandInternationalMarket/.
