Bellflower Helps Small Businesses Excel

The City of Bellflower’s Economic Development Department Offers Free Events During National Small Business Week

The City of Bellflower is gearing up to celebrate National Small Business Week beginning April 29th through May 5th. Every year since 1963, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation to recognize the critical contributions of America’s small business owners. This year, the City of Bellflower has teamed up with several organizations to host free workshops for small business owners.  

Tuesday, May 1 from 9:00 a.m. to Noon - SCORE Orange County (Service Corps of Retired Executives) will offer one-on-one mentoring by appointment only. SCORE’s business mentors are seasoned professionals who provide advice and help you sort through business challenges. In addition, SCORE will host a workshop that evening from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at City Hall.Speaker Bonnie Copeland will present “An EZ Trip through Your Financial Statements” to help business owners understand basic accounting, pricing for profits, and solutions to common financial hurdles. 



Wednesday, May 2 from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. - The Clifton M. Brakensiek Library and Southeast Los Angeles County Workforce Development Board will present their business services at the Rise and Shine Breakfast Workshop in the Green Room at City Hall (16600 Civic Center Dr.). Learn what assistance is available to business owners at no-cost. After the presentations, the Economic Development Department staff will host “Google: Get your Business on the Map” workshop to help businesses take ownership of their Google business listing and maximize their online presence.Staff will also assist with accessing a variety of social media outlets. Be sure to bring your tablet or laptop to get started! 


Thursday, May 3 at 5:00 p.m. - The Long Beach Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the City of Bellflower Economic Development have partnered to host an informative 90-minute resource panel called “Let’s Talk Business Small Business Resource Panel” at Kalaveras Mexican Cuisine in Downtown Bellflower (16530 Bellflower Blvd.). Audrianna Adams Lee, Jim Dellalonga, Karie Williford, and Victoria Byrne will participate as panelists, with Brad Pollak of the Long Beach SBDC as Moderator. The panel will cover business topics such as human resources issues, writing a successful business plan, insights about retail development, and powerful marketing tips. Refreshments and snacks will be provided. Parking is free. 

Friday, May 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. - Tour the Bellflower Chamber of Commerce at their Open House (16730 Bellflower Blvd. #A). All first time businesses will receive a 50% discount off the Chamber’s membership fee.Refreshments will be served all day.
