Economic Development Department

The Economic Development Department plans, coordinates, promotes and manages the City's economic development program to encourage economic growth. Efforts include public and private development projects, business outreach, recruitment and retention; and marketing programs and related duties in support of these activities. Specifically, the Department focuses on envisioning, coordinating and implementing comprehensive development projects that will have a significant and positive impact upon the City in the form of an increased sales or City tax, increased property values, community beautification and an improved quality of life in the community. Housing and Grants, and Public Affairs are also components of the department.

In addition, the Department provides staff assistance to the City Council, Planning Commission, and the Successor Agency to the Dissolved Bellflower Redevelopment Agency.

The City’s Economic Development Department functions include:

  • Business recruitment 
  • Business retention
  • Create and manage incentive programs offered to area businesses
  • Housing programs management - Grants & Housing
  • Assistance with business social media accounts i.e. FB, Twitter, Yelp, Google, LinkedIn
  • Downtown Kiosk Small Business Program management
  • Assistance with small business Grand Openings

Los Angeles County is now looking to expand it's partnerships to include 88 cities located within its boundaries and has introduced a new economic development services resource. Accessible through the economic development website, the County recently launched as expanded site selector tool that utilizes Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology to link new or growing businesses with investment opportunities throughout the County.
