Preparing for Hurricane Weather

As Hurricane Hilary nears Southern California, the US National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard is forecasting the potential for strong tropical storm force winds, heavy rainfall, and the potential for flash flooding.

In preparation for the storm’s arrival, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department wants to make sure you are prepared. Here are a few safety tips to prepare for the tropical storm:

- Make sure your tires have proper tread and windshield wipers.

- Check your vehicles for working headlights/taillights.

- If you can, stay home and wait out the storm.

- If you must drive, drive slowly, safely and be aware of your surroundings.

- Avoid downed power lines and immediately report them to law enforcement.
